The poems collected in the Arie Antiche (Ancient Arias) spring from those remote are- as where all human elements – body and soul, now and forever, desire and fulfillment, love and loneliness – come together and become one. Although these spheres may be unknown to us and invisible to the naked e...ye, due to its fragmented perception, they are a constant object of our longing and amount to a great beyond opening up within all things. This is how the author explained the title of his book: “Since my childhood I have been sur- rounded by old music which my father liked to listen to and sing along. Hence the title Arie Antiche, i.e. antique arias, most of which originate from the Baroque period. For me, this music has always evoked intimacy, simplic- ity, sincerity and refined sensuality. These arias kept ringing in my ears, bones and soul, and I have always desired to write something that would have a similar effect.”
